Do the boring checks at home. First-chair excitement is a terrible time to discover a split strap, rusty edge or dead goggle lens.
Start with the board
Remove storage wax if present, inspect the base for deep damage and check the edges for rust, cracks and burrs. Small maintenance may be manageable at home; core shots, edge separation and uncertain damage belong with a technician.
Mount and inspect the bindings
Confirm the mounting pattern, boot centering, stance width, angles and screw engagement. Inspect straps, ladders, ratchets, highbacks, footbeds and fast-entry connection points. Use the maker’s current manual and torque guidance.
- Photograph your stance
- Check both bindings, not only the lead foot
- Pack the correct board tool
- Re-check hardware after the first riding day
Try on the whole interface
Wear your snowboard socks, boots, pants and bindings together. Check heel hold, circulation, liner condition, BOA cables or laces and whether pant gaiters interfere with connection points.

Inspect the helmet for damage and age guidance from its maker. Check goggle foam and lenses, waterproof gloves, shell seams and zips. Recharge or replace any approved electronic safety equipment according to its instructions.
Book work before the queue forms
If the board needs a base grind, major repair or professional mount, book early. The week before a holiday is when every other rider discovers the same problem.
